Lunch Time: Get Some Spice at Vancouver's Rice 'N Spice
2008-07-09-dsc_0439_ryan_weal_rice_and_spice_vancouver_chicken_curry.jpg If you are looking for lunch that burns (in a good way) you need to check out Rice 'N Spice in Royal Centre at Georgia and Burrard. Located on the food court level this place always has a line up of about twenty people or more. Clearly this is one hot spot and the food lives up to the popularity, even though this place is hard to find online.

This curry bar features nearly everything under the sun. A daily special for each day of the week has my personal favourite, chicken masala, featured on Wednesdays. On other days I opt for the chicken curry or if I've got a craving for sweet foods I'll go for the chilli chicken. The standard dish comes with two veggie options as well, and usually there are at least six to choose from. So you can get some dal (the lentil dish) and some chick peas (as seen here) or you can get some cabbage, mixed vegetables and even some potatoes if the rice or noodle option is not enough starch to keep you happy.

Morning Brew: August 27th (Or do you like it when I do subtitles instead of the date?)
082708_mb.jpgB.C. judge sets goal of crime-free Downtown Eastside. 'Community court system will integrate health, social services; aims to clean up area by 2010 Olympics'. Again, four pillars much?

Bad Vibrations. 'Residents living next to the BC Ferries terminal in Nanaimo say the low-frequency vibrations emitted by the company's new, supersize ferries are threatening their homes'. Why are they living next to a ferry terminal? Furthermore, why are they living in Nanaimo? Also, didn't the same thing happen with the Fast Cat ferries? Also, why are there always mirrors above the vegtables and fruits in a supermarket?

Mass Listeria: 1,100 join class action lawsuit over listeria outbreak.

Mumps outbreak spreads into Metro Vancouver. I'm a huge fan of old diseases making a comeback. Can Scarlet Fever be next? Way to go Christianity, again.

Morning Brew: Summer in a barn seems like heaven
082608_mb.jpgActual Province headline: Summer in a barn seems like heaven. Actual first two paragraphs of said article: "Watching Trammy Nguyen wield a pitchfork, expertly steer her giant red wheelbarrow and gracefully hop over a fence into a horse's paddock, it would be easy to presume she's a born-and-bred farm girl. The 16-year-old is far from it. She's an east-end city girl but, with her hair tied back in a ponytail and muddy jeans, she more than looks the part." Wow. The Province turned into a Nancy Drew novel so gradually I hardly even noticed.

Candidate for platitude of the year: The future lies before us. Wow, genius. K, now, just look at the picture of the author and imagine him whispering into your ear in a husky bosso profundo like Gob , "Are you psychic? Neither am I. That's why we don't know what's going to happen 100 years, or 10 years or even two years from now", then go ahead and get creeped the fuck out.

Mair wants retraction from Supreme Court judges. So he gets sued for calling somebody names, claims free speech, wins, then tries to sue the court for calling him names? The court should sue Rafe for calling the court names, and then Rafe can claim free speech and then an infinite mobius strip could tear a rift in the space-time manifold, creating an inter-dimensional gateway between quantum level particles and the vacuous nebula of dark matter that makes up most of the universe, effectively triggering the Big Crunch.

Who The F#@K is Gregor Robertson?
Gregor, so dreamy... Update: wacqueline posted an excellent link to a Vancouver Magazine article, outlining both Ladner and Robertson. It can be found here.

Since we learned a little bit about Peter Ladner last week, it's only fair to find out at least a little about the man who holds the top spot for Vision Vancouver. Once again, I can't say that I know the man, or much about him personally. I did see him buying various berries at the Kitsilano Farmers Market, so if that counts for something, there you go.

Morning Brew: The Setting Sun
082508_mb.jpgHey, where's my grant? I can be creative. No you can't. You can't even come up with a creative subject for an editorial. Complaining about the arts getting funding is like complaining about people who eat fancy food.

More gold from the Sun: "So it's August and oil soared to yet another record high. Expect it to hit $200 a barrel soon. At least, that was what experts told us a couple of months ago. Then the price dropped. And dropped some more". You realize you sound like a grade fiver, right? IT HAS BEEN 2 MONTHS! Let's give it a couple more months. The market is fucked like that. ie. wrong.

Meanwhile, the Sun's Westcoast Home's section shocked by price drops. "I wonder how much longer than Sun is going to keep Westcoast Homes alive in its current form... There comes a point where descriptions of Kohler faucets and wood-like cabinets aren't satisfying".

You thought China faked it? Well the Vancouver Sun stole this photo of a temple in Vietnam for a story on Buddhism in China -but "really - what's the difference between Chinese and Vietnamese Buddhists? They're both Asian, aren't they?"

Clan Looks To End Three Year Losing Streak
sfuwinless080822.jpgBeing a fan of the Canucks, the Miami Dolphins (1-15 last year) and the Seattle Mariners (worst in the AL), I have to say I've become desensitized to losing.

As a kid when one, or all, of my teams lost, I'd take it personally; these days a loss just rolls off my back.

The losing streak that my alma mater's football team is on, however, is a little too much. The SFU Clan football team hasn't won a game in three seasons; 25 games to be exact.
